OVERHEAD

A large stack of television monitors is installed above the entrance of the movie theatre at Real Art Ways in Hartford, Connecticut. As you approach you see images of soldiers looming large on the screens above you. Four different views rotate on the large bank of monitors, calling to mind the images and context of surveillance. Quickly you discover that you are juxtaposed alongside the soldiers in a similar scale. As the backgrounds of the screens reveal you and the space you occupy, an investigation of your environment exposes the large figures on the screens as actually small cast pewter soldiers that reference the form of the classic plastic green army men. These figures are made large by their close proximity to the cameras which are arranged around the space, providing your mediated view of the castings that are hidden overhead.
