AMBIGRAM

An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation, whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation. A specific subset of ambigrams is the mirror ambigram or glass door ambigram.  In this form the information available through the image is readable from both sides of a window or through the reflection of a mirror.

In an effort to share this art form, two examples have been appropriated from the web and transferred onto semi transparent window clings.  In addition to adjusting the resolution and colors for this new venue, a small line of text has been added at the bottom.   Utilizing the syntax used when individuals share images on the popular social media site Facebook, the artist brings into question the current exchange of visual information online.  He calls to attention through this text and the digital pixilation of the image the fact that these images originally started on the screen. Through this re-contextualization on a window not only are they being shared with a wider “live” audience, but they are also being actually presented in the natural setting for the art form.
